We are proud to share that our organization was among the winning finalists in the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) NPO Business Challenge, hosted in partnership with Forgood.

This opportunity brought together innovative non-profit organisations focused on developing sustainable, scalable solutions to address some of South Africa’s most pressing socio-economic challenges. We are incredibly grateful for the insights, collaboration, and creativity shared throughout this journey, which highlighted the power of partnerships in driving meaningful and sustainable community impact.

Understanding the Challenge: Barriers Facing Skills Development and Employment

As part of the challenge, we identified and presented key systemic issues affecting the effectiveness of post-training and entrepreneurship support systems in communities.

These challenges include:

  • Limited formal partnerships with employers to absorb graduates
  • Inadequate systems for tracking job placements and employment outcomes
  • Insufficient staffing capacity for consistent graduate follow-up and support
  • Lack of access to startup capital and equipment for micro-enterprises
  • Lack of structured mentorship for early-stage entrepreneurs
  • Weak digital, branding, and marketing support for new and emerging businesses

These barriers continue to prevent young people and training beneficiaries from successfully transitioning into sustainable employment or entrepreneurship pathways.

Our Proposed Solution: A Digital Platform for End-to-End Support

To address these challenges, we proposed the development of a centralised digital application designed to bridge the gap between training, employment, and entrepreneurship.

The proposed platform would serve as a comprehensive ecosystem that enables:

  • Real-time tracking of learner placements and employment outcomes
  • Direct linkages between graduates and potential employers
  • Structured mentorship matching for entrepreneurs and job seekers
  • Access to startup resources, tools, and business development support
  • Digital visibility and branding support for emerging micro-enterprises
  • Continuous post-training engagement and support mechanisms

This solution is designed to strengthen the full value chain of skills development, ensuring that beneficiaries are not only trained but are actively supported into sustainable economic participation.

Recognition and Outcome

We are honoured to have placed as second in the competition, a recognition that affirms the relevance and urgency of the challenges we are addressing. While we did not secure the final implementation prize, the experience has strengthened our commitment to advancing this solution.

More importantly, it has reinforced the need for innovative, tech-driven approaches to unemployment, entrepreneurship support, and post-training impact tracking in South Africa’s development ecosystem.

Our Commitment Moving Forward

Although we did not win the final implementation funding, we remain fully committed to bringing this solution to life. We believe this platform has the potential to transform how organizations support graduates, entrepreneurs, and unemployed youth—creating stronger pathways to economic inclusion and sustainability.

We are actively seeking strategic partners, funders, and collaborators who share our vision for scalable, tech-enabled community impact.
